Last but not least, I would like to also mention "Sustained Success" the new category in contest, which had an exceeding number of entrances, fact that makes a statement regarding the true relevant things in the business environement," stated Eusediu Margasoiu, president of the Organising Committee of Romanian Effie Awards.

"The fifth edition of Romanian Effie awards is over. It has been a successful edition, which points to the progress in all dimensions. Overall, Romanian Effie 2008 has had 90 entrances, which means a 27% increase compared to the previous edition and 42 winners confronted to the 36 ones in 2007. Judging by the good quality existent in the feedback given by the judges on the cases, I must point out the event's qualitative dimension. Sadly, there is also the other part and comments are useless.
All in all I would like to thank to the Organizing Committee and also to Millenium Communications," added Eusediu Margasoiu.

All 70 jury members will vote under the terms of confidentiality and anonymity imposed by a statement which is to be signed before the judging procedure. Members of the jury will not vote for cases subscribed by their own agency or company, and also for cases originating in the same business sector which they activate in.
Subscribed cases in the competition will be judged in two stages, meaning the 12th and the 13th of May. During the first judging stage, cases will be independently evaluated, with no comparisons to the other entries in the same category. Subscribed cases in the competition, should clearly state their objectives and should also prove that those have been fulfilled or even more, surpassed. In this first stage of judging the jury evaluates only the marketing and media strategies, the creative idea and the results. The best cases of this stage will be organised in a shortlist for the second judging stage.
The second part of the judging process will evaluate only cases on the shortlist and will take into consideration the creative executions and the marketing efficiency.
The final overall score is an average of the brief score and the creative score, weighted to emphasize the brief over the creative by a ratio of two to one.
All successful campaigns which have run between January 2007 and December 2007 can compete for an Effie Prize in any category excepting Sustained Success category for which results must date back since January 2005 and must also include 2007.
The fifth local edition of the Effie Prizes is a project signed by The International Advertising Association (IAA) in partnership with The Romanian Advertising Agencies Association (UAPR) and will be organized for the second year in row, by Millenium Communications.

Entries at Effie 2008 reflect the dynamics of the Romanian Business market in Romania
After opening the cases subscribed at 2008 Effie Awards, the organizing committee has decided to restructure the categories in contest.
This decision to split some of the categories was taken after a great number of cases have entered the trend sections dictated by the dynamics of the market in Romania.
It is part of the attribution performed by the organizing committee to create or to diminish the categories in order for the competition to better reflect the growing directions of the business market.
One conclusion after analyzing the entries is that a great number of cases have joined The FMCG Promotion and Non FMCG Promotion categories. This has lead to the decision to split the two sections and obtaining the following ones: Promotions FMCG Food, Promotions FMCG non Food, Promotions non FMCG Services, and Promotions non FMCG Products.
Another very popular section of 2008 Effie Awards is the Financial Services category. This is why the organizing committee has created two new sections out of it: Financial Loans si Financial Others.

Benefits of winning an Effie Award
The first subscribing stage of the Romanian Effie Awards ends on the 28th of March. Until the1st of May, the final subscribing terms, all successful campaigns of the previous year are welcome to join the competition.
Effie Awards celebrate the advertising campaigns efficiency and reward performances and joined efforts results of the advertising agency and the marketing departments in the client company.
"Any prize is recognition of the quality of the deposed work. An Effie award is not a gain for one department only, but it is celebrated altogether by the client service department, the strategic planning department and the creative department. It is also a reason of joy and recognition of the client's merits," said Alexandra Rusu, Senior Partner/Marketing Consultant MGT Business Services and member of the 2008 Effie jury. "That is the reason why I can say that probably the most important gain after winning an Effie is realizing that any successful campaign is the product of team work and each member has its own merits. Obviously, it is also a bonus for the agency's resume", Alexandra Rusu added.
In the communication industry, Effie Awards are perceived as a standard-setter of performances and efforts put together by all the involved teams. "Effie competition awards the advertising results and I think that there are multiple benefits for all those who are involved in it: the research agency, the client and the advertising agency. They will all receive the Effie prize as an "endorsement", recognition of the high quality of their work," stated Florian Gheorghe, Marketing Manager Pfizer and member of the 2008 Effie jury. "There will be a definite boost of credibility for the company inside the industry they belong to, and the individuals who brought a direct contribution to the awarded campaign will be very popular inside their company", Florian Gheorghe added moreover.
Winning an Effie means achieving credibility and resonance on the business market and creates communication and promotion occasions for both the agency and client. "An Effie award is most certainly an advantage on the visit card of any agency and also a very productive PR context. This is followed by an increase of notoriety and reputation for the agency and, of course, by an increase of demand from the clients," Catalina Cernica, Managing Director Graffiti BBDO, ExPresident of UAPR and member of the 2008 Effie jury.
First of all, the Effie competition sets a challenge for the participating company. The process itself, of selecting the participating cases for the competition involves putting in line the objectives and the results of the campaign. "Any agency desiring to position itself as an efficient one should endeavour in winning an Effie prize. The process itself, of choosing the cases to enter the contest, implies a great opportunity to self estimate the creativity translated into efficiency." declared Mihai Vartosu, ExPresident of IAA and jury member of Effie 2008.
At the same time, advertising agencies can subject themselves to a positioning procedure in comparison with their direct competitors in the festival: "Agencies are given the opportunity to emphasize peculiar aspects in their campaigns and to improve their product in the future by applying the lessons taken from the analysis of their own cases or from those of the other's competitors." "It is a certainty that an Effie is an excellent PR platform and also a reason to celebrate the successes achieved by the combined efforts of the agency and client," added Mihai Vartosu.
Successful campaigns, which have run between January - December 2007, can be subscribed for any category in the contest by filling in the Effectiveness Brief. A special brief has been dedicated to the special Sustained Success category for which results must date back since January 2005 up to 2007.
Registrations can be made until the 1st of May 2008 and will be centralized by Millenium Communications - the organizing agency. The winners will be announced during the Awarding Gala that will take place on the 15th of May 2008.

The name of the participating company or agency must not appear on any subscribed material.
The 2008 edition of Romanian Effie Awards brings in a few novelties meant to provide a more accurate description of the actual and modern business environment, so as the Sustained Success category. This section awards performance proved by a brand on a three years' period of time or even more and honors campaigns with constant success which have achieved or surpassed their objectives.
Effie competition receives campaigns developed between January 2007 and December 2007 for all categories in the contest, except Sustained Success category for which the results must date back since January 2005 and must also include year 2007. What's new about Effie 2008?
The 2008 edition of Romanian Effie Awards brings in a few novelties meant to provide a more accurate description of the actual and modern business environment, to which the competition is dedicated. Romanian Effie Awards 2008 will be organized by The International Advertising Association (IAA) and Uniunea Agentiilor de Publicitate din Romania (UAPR).
The novelty that describes this year's edition is, first of all, about the competition's categories but also about the methods to fill in the subscribing briefs.
Sustained Success is a new and special category, which awards campaigns that have experienced sustained success for a period of THREE or more years. This prize honors campaigns which have made the proof of constant performances and which have exceeded the stated objectives. Results must date back since January 2005 and must include also the current year 2007.
This section is dedicated to cases which may include one campaign developed throughout the above mentioned period, but can also include more campaigns which have fulfilled the same objectives regarding the strategy and the creative executions. Those fundamental elements of execution (character, spokesperson, song, theme, tagline, etc.) must demonstrate effectiveness over time.
Cases subscribed for Sustained Success category must be illustrated with works reliable for at least two media that are representative for the campaign. The efficiency of the subscribed case will be supported with relevant examples from the first year of campaign, the intermediary year but also the current one.
A special entry kit has been dedicated to this section: The Sustained Success Brief.
"The Sustained Success category may seem surprising for such a young industry like ours, but the fact that a great number of brands have entered and won many Effie competitions is evidence that there are a lot of opportunities for successful cases to be built throughout three years' period of time. Most certainly it will be a challenge for both agencies and clients, and we truly hope it will raise interest. We also hope that the benefit will be worth so as to fill in a special brief, a more complex brief than the one dedicated to the other standard categories", Afrodita Blasius - Managing Partner, Bridge Communication, Member of The Organizing Committee of Effie Romania, declared.
Improvements have been introduced also regarding Social Services, where a definite distinction was placed between Non-profit/ Pro-Bono, Public service campaigns (which include advertising of a public service nature for a non-profit organization or association, political messages, and special interest/trade group advertising) and Corporate Reputation, Image & Identity (includes sponsorships, corporate image and identity; advertising to promote corporations, not exclusively their products/services).
Non-profit/ Pro-Bono, Public service campaigns is the only campaign for which no subscribing fee is needed, provided that the agency proves it disposed of no media budget.
Renaissance section, dedicated to rebirth campaigns, will be better defined starting the 2008 Effie Edition. Cases in this category must hint at brands that suffered a decrease of at least one year and a growth/ increase of at least six months.
Regarding the subscribing briefs, participants will not be imposed to use a limit of characters for filling them in, but a 10 point font will be required. No binding space will be imposed for filling in the paragraphs. Competitors will have the possibility to manage the number of pages specified for each brief, as they consider, on the condition that no paragraph is omitted.
The two participating briefs (Effectiveness Brief and Brief of Sustained Success) can be downloaded from the official site of the competition - www.effie.ro.
The competitors must state the source of the data written in the briefs.
Registrations can be made until the 1st of May 2008 and will be centralized by Millenium Communications - the organizing agency. The winners will be announced during the Awarding Gala that will take place on the 15th of May 2008.
The local edition of Effie Awards is a project signed by The International Advertising Association (IAA) in partnership with Uniunea Agentiilor de Publicitate din Romania (UAPR) and will be organized by Millenium Communications for the second consecutive year.

From this perspective, Effie is the mirror of this industry in which the attention that both the advertising agencies and the clients give to the efficiency of the campaigns is reflected. It also describes the availability towards measuring and displaying the campaigns' results. Effie Awards reflects the quality of presenting a successful story in a convincing and coherent manner" Mr. Eusediu Margasoiu, Marketing Director of Pepsi Americas and President of The Organizing Committee of Effie Romania, declared.
The novelty of this edition is the special category: Sustained Success. The campaigns subscribed to this new section must make the proof of sustained success for the last three years.
